Gorgeous dip dyed hair submitted by multi dip dye fiend Saskia!
I’m Saskia, I live in Bristol (UK), and I love colouring my hair.
I have bleached my ends with Jerome Russell Bblonde 3 times using a paintbrush and got the fade by mixing a bit of conditioner in to the bleach for the section that goes from bleached to brown hair. Useful to use (gloved!) fingers to rub in a bit at the ends and have a plastic bag and hair tie to wrap it up in while you wait. (Blow dry hot for faster bleaching)
I have then painted in many different mixes of Manic Panic dyes I bought online – they’re really easy and pretty cheap so worth getting for experiments. I have Enchanted Forest, Pretty Flamingo, Atomic Turquoise and Cotton Candy Pink.
I’ve found that mixing some of these before applying can be fun too – and again, I always premix conditioner into the colours for the middle layer of hair to get a real fade.
The pots tell you to only leave them on for about half an hour, but I try to leave them in my wrapped sections of tin foil for as long as possible – the longer you dare, the longer it stays bright in your hair – especially pinks which wash out quickly.
Another tip is to wash out with cool water and conditioner NOT shampoo. It’s best not to shampoo the dyed sections at all, which is tough if you have half-normal hair!
P.S. Love your site, great hairspiration x
